Because it is simply not true

Many people wouldn’t mind other people smoking, as long as it doesn’t impact non-smokers. But the thing is, smokers aren’t really all that considerate about non-smokers. I attended a couple festivals over the past week. It’s really annoying when you stand in packed crowd as a non-smoker and someone starts smoking. Sure, we are outside, but it literally makes breathing harder, especially for asthma patients.

I don’t really see a way in which smokers and non-smokers can coexists without the smoker impacting the non-smoker. Even if you only smoke outside of the restaurant/bar, it will still be annoying and unhealthy to people entering the restaurant or bar.

I’m very curious with how things will develop in France, where they banned smoking in area’s where children are present, which is virtually everywhere.

Today? Yeah sure. Next year? The way things are going…

Such negative sentiment. Not everything is about rebelling against billionaires you know? Space travel is following the same innovation curve as any other mode of travel. Remember how expensive a car used to be, or flying? Those used to be only for the wealthy, now you can hop on a flight to the other side of the content for less than 100 Euro. It will eventually be the same for space travel. The cost of space cargo is coming down quickly, which will enable us to explore “the final frontier”. I hope I get to experience it in my lifetime and it isn’t really outside the realm of possibility either.

The way I see it, there are two types of developers we should take into consideration for this discussion:

• Software Engineers
• Code editors

Most “programmers” these days are really just code editors, they know how to search stack overflow for some useful pointers, copy that code and edit it to what they need. That is absolutely fine, this advances programming in so many ways. But the software engineers are the people that actually answer the stack overflow questions with detailed answers. These engineers have a more advanced skillset in problem solving for specific coding frameworks and languages.

When people say: programmers are cooked, I keep thinking that they mean code editors, not software engineers. Which is a similar trend in basically all industries in relation with AI. Yes, AI has the potential to make some jobs in health care obsolete (e.g. radiologist), but that doesn’t mean we no longer need surgeons or domain expert doctors. Same thing applies to programming.

So if you are a developer today, ask yourself the following: Do actually know my stuff well, am I an expert? If the answer is no, and you’re basically a code editor (which again, is fine), then you should seriously consider what AI means for your job.

What do you mean? I checked my doorbell camera and you always leave house at around 8 am and return around 5.30 pm, nothing out of the ordinary? /s

How is the company fucking me, if I enjoy playing the game and get my money’s worth?

Perhaps Linux isn’t the right operating system, but it’s competing with Windows, which is more or less a jack of all trades. Linux today isn’t a jack of all trades, mostly a niche solution. That is fine, but we can then not pretend it’s for everyone.

Meanwhile, I’ll keep trying with Linux, hoping one day it will be the jack of all trades and I can seamlessly use it.

Just pointing why it’s not as easy. People don’t want to go cry at game devs/companies that Linux is not supported. They just want a plug and play solution. It’s like telling people to buy a different brand of car, but they cannot use it on the same roads they usually drive and then say: “go cry to get that resolved”. No, I’m not going to take a different route home, I will just use the car that makes my life easier.

The problem is that Linux is only ready in certain cases. For me, it isn’t there yet, because I can’t use it for my gaming machine. Every time this is brought up, Linux enthusiast shrug it off as “no big deal”, you can game on Linux, just the games that use kernel level anti-cheat won’t work. Well yeah, that’s a bit the issue, I still like to play some of those games you see?

Meanwhile, I have Linux Mint running on a laptop that I bring on vacation. I don’t game on that one. Then Linux works just as well as any other OS, no issue.

I’m just in awe about those 28% and 33% tax brackets. I’m in the 49,5% bracket here in The Netherlands. That being said, I’m fortunate to be in it.

Mostly in the US though, but unfortunately the US is leaking :(

Reminds me of the joy when watching interviews with people on the British/Irish border, when they learned they now have to buy their groceries 30 mins further than they were used to. They also said: “we didn’t vote for this”. What do people expect to happen when they vote for something?
