  • Dont know, but i had to go that route.

And again, on Windows, i wouldnt have to do that. I just download the program and there it is.

Let me just propose a different scenario: i watch football via Wow.tv. Before i installed Linux, i

    1. Opened up a browser
    2. Went to the website
    3. Entered a password
    4. Watched the stream.

On linux i tried that, got hit with the old “DRM content on Linux” razzledazzle, tried to figure out if i could install a browser that runs via wine to access the site, only to get hit with four forum entries all saying: “Why tf do you want to run a browser via wine? Dont do that.”

I had to whip out my old windows laptop to watch my footie.

I love linux. I love being able to tinker and do all the cool stuff on it, being independent of large corps and such. But for a lot of people this isnt worth the hassle. And not recognizing this is one of the reasons why Linux will not reach mass adoption.

  • Unfortunately, his UG work in the field of linguistics turned out to be really bad.

Universal Grammar states that all of the knowledge about languages is already in your brain when you’re born. The only thing that happens in language aquisition is figuring out which parameters are in what state: If your mothertongue is German, then the parameter “has case system” is switched to “yes” and the parameter “has tone system” is switched to “no”.

The idea is that there is some parameter that is set to yes in ALL languages. But everytime such a parameter is put forward, we find that it isnt the case actually.

The next problem is its eurocentrism. Languages, through the lens of UG, all have to have similar parameters as Indo-European languages. Whenever languages do not fit that model, the first instinct in UG is to press it into that model, which leads to stuff like invisible affixes, invisible words and even invisible subjects.

Instead of analyzing a language on its own, forming new categories to understand the mechanics of the language, UG tries its hardest to computerize and systematize languages.

  • Its only restrictive when the feds do it, okay.

Abolishing gay right hasnt happened, but is something conservatives clamor for at every twist and turn. Conservative justices write opinions about how decisions regarding the accessibility of birth control should be limited, but i guess thats not restrictive either.

And i am sorry, did you just pretend that the entirety of the conservative debate around trans rights is about bathrooms? No, they dont want trans people to exist. The feds just said “There are only two genders.” How tf is that not interference?

I dont call people tankies for thinking that communism is cool. Or that the west sucks.

I call people tankies, when they defend the ethnic cleansings and the great purge of Stalin by saying “we just had to defend ourselves” or portraying them as an integral part of the struggle better peoples lives.

Because i personally dont think that deporting entire ethnic groups from their homelands is needed to better peoples lives. I dont think the paranoid xenophobia of Stalin helped anyone and at worst crippled the ability of the Red Army to withstand the initial invasion of the Wehrmacht. I think his usage of the word “counterrevolutionary” completely devalued the word because calling Zinoviev, Kamenev and Trotzky counterrevolutionaries for calling for collectivization, only to turn around and calling Bukharin counterrevolutionary for opposing collectivization is a sign for devolving into a byzantine power struggle.
