  • The new term does derive directly from the old disk game, and the disk game derives its name from a juice beverage that originated the disks as part of the caps.

Pog might be the most diversely derived words in the English language, it being an acronym of the words Pineapple, Orange and Guava. Pineapple being derived from apple which comes out of Germanic languages, orange coming out of the Dravidian languages of south India, and guava coming out of the Arawakan languages of South America. These three language families share no known common ancestry.

  • I was lucky enough to have played fallout 3 before new Vegas. So the series for me went from “that was fun, interesting setting” to “Wow this is genuinely amazing and feels like a living world that I’m inhabiting and interacting with.”

And then fallout 4 came out, and I was hoping that Bethesda would have learned something from New Vegas. But that was foolish, modern Bethesda doesn’t write stories, they don’t understand characters, they are a software company manufacturing a product, not a studio crafting playable stories. What narrative and story do exist, are the minimal needed to serve the gameplay loops. They make toy boxes, not experiences. Some people like that, but that’s not what I play these kinds of games for.

Going back and playing fallout 1 and 2 solidified this for me further, if Bethesda was going to learn from what made new Vegas great, they would have done so from 1 and 2 and implemented it in 3.

I haven’t even bothered to try fallout 76. I know what it is, it’s a looter shooter live service game meant to Skinner box you in to spending as much time as possible grinding up numbers and finding the best stats on rare drops. It’s not what I’m in to. I’ve accepted that.

As much as I love the fallout setting and the potential for story and world, there will never be another fallout game, just Bethesda products wearing the aesthetic. There are plenty of other great games out there that have story and gameplay working synergistically to create an experience.

Me looking at the shelf full of compressed freeze dried potato flakes with MSG, trying to imagine what the diffrence between “Philly cheese steak flavor pringles” and “cheese burger flavor pringles” could possibly be.

Or trying to figure out why this glass jar of tomatoes with basil is worth twice as much as this can of high quality tomatoes and a bottle of dried basil.

Or why there are 7 brands of paper towel, each with 2 varieties, each in 2 sizes of role, and with each coming in 5 different package sizes. Then looking at the system and realizing they all come from the same factory.

  • “Or, hear me out, we tax that billionaire 100 million dollars, you get to keep a million of that as public campaign finance, and the other 99% goes to building public housing and rent subsidies.”

“But that will make the billionaire angry!”

“Fuck ‘em, were the government, they’ve violated the social contract and thrown in with fascism, they’re lucky we’re not throwing them in jail for all the laws they’ve broken. “

  • Often times the services have a fleet of accounts, they have them do reposts of old popular posts with titles and some content rephrased, then some of the rest of the fleet copies the top comments and rephrases those and posts them below.

This builds a history of realistic and semi popular looking posts in a way that is fairly easy to automate . Anyone who looks closely could potentially figure out a given account, or even cluster of accounts, is farmed, but it takes effort and time to prove it, more effort and time than it takes for them to spool up another batch of bots.

  • “Of course the Americans introduced the Colorado potato beetle! After all, where is Colorado? America! Check mate liberal”

For real though I hate those little fuckers. Every time I try and grow potatoes in a garden I get an infestation and it’s a pain to deal with in a small plot, can’t imagine how much of a nightmare they are on a proper field.

Propaganda, is a craft, it’s a whole world of tricks and manipulations. Not just censorship and positive stories about the leaders. It can get shockingly sophisticated. We usually only take note of the obvious and obtuse propaganda.

People aren’t dumb for believing it, it’s a whole field of figuring out how to convince people about things. Often if the propaganda doesn’t work on you, that’s because it’s not designed for you, or it has worked but the goal of it wasn’t what you thought it was.

So, the interior of steak being raw is fine. Due to the nature of it, it’s unlikely there will any pathogens inside of it, perhaps on the outside because it is exposed and could have been contaminated, but the interior is safe due to being… well not being exposed. Of course there are exceptions but generally it is safe so long as the exterior has been cooked to a point where any pathogens are dead.

Ground beef is another thing entirely since any contamination that was on the outside has been mixed in, and thus it should be cooked through thoroughly.

The discussion about how to cook steak has been “medium rare is the best way to cook steak” for a long time now, so I think a lot of people just assume what ever doneness they like their steak cooked to must be “medium rare”.

The image would best be described as Blue, and it’s fine to take a steak blue if that’s what you prefer.

Ok, well, I suspect most people aren’t going to be willing to pay that, or at the very least will buy significantly less games over all.

I suppose from a business sense the question is; will a reduced number of games sold at a higher margin be more profitable over all than more games sold at a lower margin?

They’ll probably just loose disproportionate market share to games vendors and platforms that aren’t selling at such a high price point, even if most of the major consoles fallow suite, i think that will just hurt the market share of consoles as a whole, phones have gotten shockingly good and might devour the low end of the market more than they already have if there are some shake ups in how app stores work, and there are a lot of plenty capable mid range gaming PC handheld that are competitive with consoles.
