    Context matters

Its a very blunt statement but also the way certain people talk. I honestly don’t think Torvalds wants the entire opensuse team tomkill themselves

He didn’t say “hey, <insert name here> go kill yourself”.

He said that if you’re a dev and think its normal to require root password for changing time or connecting to a network, then please kill yourself.

It’s more than anything an expression of frustration in which I recognize myself. I have to deal with a provider from which I won’t be able to leave for at least another year, which is extremely expensive and extremely incompetent, causing me literally days of work and I have wished in more than one occasion that they would all die in a fire because it’s all incompetent managers who don’t do the work they cause all the shit.

When he talks to someone directly, he’ll know, right, Mauro?

  • Yeah no, this will be long term

First trump term, him fucking over all allies is something the allies could forgive. Second time, not so much. Allies now know they can’t rely on the US to be a trustworthy ally.

Trump already destroyed all soft power, he wants to reduce military spending by 50% too, so hard power will be down the drain as well.

Then he’s destroying the economy, he increased highcorruption like there is no tomorrow, he is destroying education and he is destroying all oversight on companies

He’s working hard on destroying democratic institutions too so forget fair elections, as if the US ever had any.

IMHO, the US will never recover from trump, and that is what it deserves. It always had the great chance to be truely great but it fucked itself around every corner trying to please the rich

  • No.

I’ve seen a lot of these complaints and it’s never about just a woman being in media. acting as if it is, is disingenuous and plain lying

People complain when changes are made for bullshit reasons, like virtue signalling. The problem becomes that a mobile company just switches someone’s race to whatever is darker, they’ll switch a character from male to female, and tadaaaahhh, we have a great product now, so let’s cut investments in writing, good actors, food producers and the end result it shit, yet we’re supposed to somehow cheer it because the main character is now an <insert minority group>

Take Ariel, the mermaid. The character who was known to be white with red hair was swapped to a black actress and the resulting product was shit. It ws shit not because of the character being black, but because the movie was a cheap cash grab using virtue signalling to make people care.

It can be done right when, you know, its not done for virtue signalling. Take battlestar Galactica. Starbuck was change to a woman and holy crap, did they kick it out of the park. The actress was awesome, the writing (mostly) was awesome, the production was awesome.

Too many times I’ve been told that some movie must be great because it’s against patriarchy and its just dog shit. If you want to “battle the patriarchy” then just make a good damn movie or show, I’ll watch it. I will NOT waste my time watching a shitshow just because “it has more women in it!!” I don’t care, just make it good

  • I have 64 and am about to upgrade to 128GB

I run windows in a VM. Nothing heavy, just to test some things on the shitty windows systems

I run multiple databases, MySQL, PostgreSQL, redis, MongoDB, memcached, all with extra memory available, for development

I run a large array of services directly and in docker containers. Transmission web, the ARR suite, jellyfin, next cloud, immich, onlyofffice, various PHP apps, the list goes on.

8GB is the bare minimum if you only browse 16GB Is the bare minimum if you also run other apps 32GB Is a good amount to work with 64GB is a requirement if you do development or have a lot of services 128GB is a normal amount for a developer

  • Elin musk is a (criminal) scammer, he always has been.

He was fired for incompetence from his own company

Pretty much everything he’s promised for every company he has headed had been a lie. Tesla full self driving? Lie. Hyperloop? All lies to successful kill high speed rail and start a movement that wasted billions of dollars including tax payer money. Even SpaceX, the least shit of all, is shit. Once you really look at it, its all promises with no results and lots of cheering when millions of tax payer dollars -yet again- blow up in the sky.

The guy has one quality: convincing people that he’s smart even though he literally doesn’t know shit

    Oh hells no

.exe to execute is (probably one of) the worst ideas Microsoft has come up with and has caused endless misery for people.

If you’re talking about a single package to install then there are various solutions for that that are better. There are the apt and rpm packages, Sudo apt install packagename installs everything automatically, or I can do that from a app store if I’m a newbie.

For apps that want a wider net, they can use flatpaks

Anyone complaining that installing software in Linux is always complicated hasn’t installed software on Linux. Yeah I’m a power user but to me it’s factors faster and easier to do this stuff on Linux than on Windows

Yeah, Linux has many ways to get stuff done, that is because many different people want and get their own way. I don’t see this as necessarily bad. With the three ways described above, you can cover pretty much everything

I agree that noone should have to get into a console to get your system or app working but please note that this same shit happens on windows too, just way more bizarre. The amount of times I saw “modify this registry entry with this UUID code” is crazy, while on Linux it’s “run this command or modify that text file”. I still prefer the latter

  • Do you have any experience installing only office?

I’ve tried installing it many times over the past decade with only one successful attempt about a decade ago.

Every few years I try to install it again and fail

I’m trying to install it now but again, nothing. I’ve tried installing it using the official scripts which wreck the operating system. Dame for using the official debs.

So I tried using the docker version and that just doesn’t do anything at all. I try opening the page on the right port and it connects and disconnects immediately.

I’ve used only office and it’s awesome. However, nothing is as hard to install as onlyofffice

  • It’s the typical “in the flag ship for my minority, yay! Also, fuck that other minority”

How about we just respect and equally support ALL minorities, or hell, ALL groups, depending on the situation?

Jews aren’t bad, Palestinians aren’t bad. Extremists are bad, whether they’re on the Palestinians or Jewish camps. Palestinians currently have more of a point to be extremist, of course, but the extremism isn’t helping anyone.

  • KDE has an enormous system settings GUI.

Having said that, I use the console for like 90% of tasks. Basically I use either the GUI browser, an editor (I’m a dev) and the console through yakuake.

I use the console because it’s way WAY more efficient to get shit done. What teo windows admin do in 30 minutes I do in 30 seconds, and that was an actual event where we had to change DNS configurations inna large amount of customer servers.

Command console is not old tech, it’s efficient tech.

Having said that, most normal users shouldn’t have or need to access the console either and for most of the time, this rings true with Linux now. Yeah, there are few exceptions here and there, but then again, windows too requires these senslrss Registry settings, or sometimes even command line actions as well

    Yeah, no.

In about as progressive as can be, but I’m not in favor of every dumb idea just because “it’s a left idea”. We live in the real world too, yet I’ve been called a Nazi multiple times for not fully agreeing with every tiny detail.

It’s that exact attitude that had been pushing many people to the right, please stop doing that.

I’m against everything trump, pretty much everything what the Republican party has to offer, I can even see that Luigi has a good point that needs addressing, but at the same time I would like space to discuss items, or plain disagree with something. This space is omething that has disappeared since long time ago. I get it, but this is what trump wanted to begin with, create a “you’re with ur or against us” atmosphere.

You have to be able to disagree with certain individual things or if not you’re just in yet another fascist system.

Let the down votes come. Calls for being reasonable are very unpopular these days

  • I don’t think I’ve ever called or referred anyone like that in real life, no.

“You have to talk to that right handed person there”

    “You, heterosexual, are next”

You know why I’ve never done that? Because I don’t care about somebrandom persons sexuality, or handedness, or how he identifies his gender.

You know why I don’t? Because nobody does. This is the real world and I don’t want to have to deal with your issues when all I need you to do is hand me that bottle of something I want to buy.

If I were to get to know you a little more intimate, you know, becoming close friends, something romantic, then sure, tell me all about your quirks, we all have em.

On a side note: cis has been used for a long time as a prejorative as well, so using it is also akin to calling a gay person a faggot. We don’t do that either, because it’s a shit thing to say.

  • As soon as you van stop using weird vocabulary as “cis man”, i would start thinking about saying any of that.

Yes, there is a lotmof right wing bullshit going on but this entire Snowflake “Im special so we need to change language” is in large part what has pushed so many people to trump yo begin with.

To out it simple: you’re part of the problem. Fix yourself too
