Recently stopped caring about removing the shells on shrimp and I just eat them with the shell on.
Does anyone else do this?
No it’s gross
i knew a guy making a million a year by buying shrimp shells from a food processor for practically nothing and grinding them into dust and selling them as protein powder for gym dudes for $40/bottle.
twitches in FDA
It’s got the Cadmium bodies crave.
I mean, would it work as protein powder?
it is protein, and it sold like crazy. i cant speak to it being a good idea or quality.
Yea sure. I eat the banana peels too. Idk why people look at me like I’m a weirdo.

When it’s crispy fried shrimp, yes. Any other time, no.
No. It absolutely interferes with my enjoyment of shrimp, I don’t want to be interrupted with the crunchy unpleasant skin and tail, no. Take them off and make a shrimp broth, then you keep the flavor and the texture. I hate when the tails are left on in pastas & pilafs or similar. If it’s a shrimp boil I peel them.
Just due to texture alone, shrimp and other crustacean shells are a hard pass for me.
Shrimp tails if they’re fried.
I’m always worried about cutting my tongue on the shells, though that worry mainly surfaces when eating sushi. They can be sharp, and the tongue does not seem like a fun place for a paper cut.
They can be used for flavoring but I would not eat the shells.
Yes I do
Depends on how they are cooked. I hate popcorn because I always end up with little bits of hull Stu k in my throat. Same goes for shrimp. If it’s cooked well enough that that doesn’t happen, I’m fine to eat them
I have been encouraged/peer pressured to eat shrimp with the tails on. I declined and ripped them off.
I, too, many years ago got tired of the process of removing shells and now just crush 'em shell on. It’s been about a decade and no issues thus far.
I don’t, because it would require a trip to the hospital. Ain’t allergies fun?
But they’re not exactly easy to digest anyway, and how they’re cooked matters to the people I know that do eat them
When I make Scampi, I use the shells to make a shrimp stock to cook the shrimp and butter. Broiling jumbo shrimp with Bay’s Seasoning in the shell means I take the shell off before eating it.
Stock is a smart idea
I’ll take stock in that idea.
